Day 125 of 365: Floral Study

Floral Study. May 2025

A Sunday afternoon spent with my wife’s succulents in bloom in the garden. For this study, I carried two of the pots into my studio. Amazing how these flowers look in abstraction. They are no longer flowers. It’s the thing before flower, before plant, before words. They melted into just shapes and textures. That is the essence of what I do, a practice I’m now calling OraLux or praying with light. Like other forms of meditation, like zazen, Visio Divina, and its word counterpart Lectio Divina, oralux slows me down enough to really see what’s before me in the light and in shadows. See and not name.

Some more impressions from this session of practice.
