Standing on the sidelines of a mile-long sand path, made for one specific purpose – a vow to the Virgin. With the fervour of faith, these pilgrims at Velankanni walk of their knees on coarse sand for various reasons – to fulfil a vow, to beseech the Virgin, or to make reparation for sins.
