| As an independent multimedia journalist, Gasper D'Souza is passionate about working in areas
of social documentary, using the visual medium as a means of social
awareness.
Influenced by
masters like Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sabastiao Salgado and Walker
Evans, Gasper believes in the un-obtrusive documentary style
photography or reportage photography.
In 2005 he became the first photojournalist to be awarded the
prestigious Dempo
Research Fellowship. As part of the
year-long Fellowship project, Gasper worked on a visual study of the fishing
activities and community in Goa.
In 2005 he won an award at the photography competition organised
during the National Conference on Women's Studies under the theme
"Role of Women in Development of Society"
Gasper D'souza has been in the field
of journalism since the year 2000. Before going the independent way, he was with the The Navhind Times,
the leading English language daily in Goa, contributing feature stories
as well as handling page design. He has also contributed feature
images to the international agency the Agence France-Presse (AFP)
Gasper is a product of the Jesuit brand
of education having schooled at the St Mary's High School, Mazagaon
Mumbai and graduated from the St Xavier's College, Mumbai.
At 32, Gasper is happily
married with an adorable daughter and presently lives in Calangute Goa.
He is available for assignments or
contracts in India or abroad.
